Jake Thompson

Mr. Thompson is a graduate of Tift County High School in Tifton, Ga. During his time in Tift County, he was a student of Ms. Sheri Wyles, band director at Williams Middle School in Moultrie, Ga.  After graduating, he attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga.  While attending ABAC, Mr. Thompson was president of the CMENC chapter, was named Overall Best Musician in the music department, and participated in Concert Band, Jazz Band, and in the ABAC Brass Quintet. He studied trumpet privately with Mr. Don Coates while in attendance at ABAC as well.  In August 2010, he transferred to the University of Georgia, where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education.  During his time at UGA, he marched in the Redcoat Band, performed with the UGA Wind Ensemble and the UGA Symphony Orchestra, and studied trumpet with Dr. Brandon Craswell and Mr. David Bilger, who is the principal trumpet player in the Philadelphia Orchestra. 

Mr. Thompson comes to us from his internship at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Ga and from Malcom Bridge Middle School in Bogart, Ga.  This will be his first year at Charlie A Gray Junior High School.  His focus with 50th Regiment will be ensemble brass, as well as stand tune arranging.  He will co-teach Jazz Band with Mrs. Savage as well as be Director of CCHS Basketball Pep Band.  Jake currently resides in Tifton, Ga.
